False sense of security

This morning, while on my morning walk, I saw an odd-looking rock in the middle of the street. When I realized it was a turtle, I immediately stepped off the sidewalk and walked over to it. I picked it up and placed it on the other side by the park grounds near a stream. I have no idea where it was headed, but at the rate he was going he might have ended up being crushed by a passing vehicle. I wondered if it knew that its only line of defense is not going to cut it in an urban environment?

Had it not been for me taking a new path this morning, I would've never come across this beautiful creature. And, possibly, it could've met its demise (or not.) Either way, I'm glad I decided to change my routine. I think there are new paths that are worth exploring; paths that go unnoticed as we walk by them every day determined to stay "on course" (whatever that may be) for the sake of sense of security and purpose; both of which might be truly found off the beaten path by making small changes.
